This follows the Internal Revenue Service and the Treasury Department issuing revisions to the new Treasury Department Circular 230 standards for written tax advice. The regulations set forth best practices for tax advisors providing advice for their clients on federal tax issues or submissions to the IRS.

In part, the revisions mandate disclosure requirements for various forms of opinions expressed by tax professionals. This includes what information must be disclosed as well as specific requirements for how the information is to be disclosed on written communications, including email.

The requirements apply to written advice that is rendered after June 20, 2005.
